Temperatures are rising here, in Florida, meaning it’s time to turn your irrigation system ON. Warm and dry weather is predicted. Citrus County Utilities recommends adjusting your irrigation schedule to water once per week. This is not applicable to those with an irrigation system with water sensing technology, this will automatically adjust water usage with no effort to the homeowner.
Citrus County Utilities, Water Conservation department recommends the following:
July: One scheduled irrigation of 1/2” to 3/4” each week. 1/2” of irrigation is about 30 minutes per rotor head zone and 15 minutes per spray head zone. Irrigation may occur from 12 AM to 10 AM or 4:00 PM to 11:59 PM, not both, based on the last digit of your address as follows:
- 0 or 1 — Monday
- 2 or 3 — Tuesday
- 4 or 5 — Wednesday
- 6 or 7 — Thursday
- 8 or 9 and locations with a mix of addresses or no address – Friday
This is a great time to spruce up the irrigation system. The utility offers a free one-time checkup and training. This is what we will review:

Water Conservation Tip: Ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. Easily check your toilets for leaks by adding a dye tablet (or a few drops of food coloring) into
your toilets tank. Wait 10 minutes and if the color appears in the bowl, there is a leak present. This can be fixed, simply, by replacing the toilet flapper. This should be replaced every 5 years to prevent water waste.

Citrus County Utilities also encourages residents to update their contact information. This is important in an event where they would need to reach you due to a situation such as, an excessive increase in water usage or a possible leak. These things are to be handled as soon as possible, so the Utilities require up-to-date contact info.
