The perks of living in our wonderful community include attending great festivals year-round. One such event held in November, is the annual Stone Crab Jam. People come from all over to take part in the annual Stone Crab Jam because of the assortment of things to do and see located in the heart of the beautiful downtown Crystal River. From live music performed by different bands, to unique craft vendors, food trucks and artists.Nearly 10,000 attendees support this annual, 100% non-profit event – Hosted by the Kings Bay Rotary Club, Charitable Foundation members, hundreds of dedicated local volunteers and our superb Community Businesses.
Another popular festival in Citrus County is the Florida Manatee Festival. The event takes place in historic downtown Crystal River. Surround yourself with the natural beauty of Crystal River and the warmth of the community festivals bring. Musical entertainment goes on for both days from two stages. Also, more than 200 fine art and craft vendors line the streets of Crystal River. And of course, there is delicious food, along with beer and wine gardens near both music stages and throughout the festival.
Citrus County Museums
For history buffs, we have numerous museums. The Coastal Heritage Museum in Crystal River offers large numbers of exhibits and photos on the area’s past industries such as cedar pencil production and its notable individuals. Then there is the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum. Built in 1912 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Old Courthouse Museum offers not only a look back at the history of Citrus County through artifacts and photos, but also a Summer Concert Series.
We also have the Floral City Heritage Museum and Country Store featuring exhibits from Floral City’s Boom Days. This museum features numerous artifacts from the past including a wooden washing machine and photos depicting life in the 1800’s. Additionally, a unique Country Store features a wide array of reproduction artifacts like antique tin signs, feather dusters, wood and tine toys and feather dusters. Citrus County Archaeological Sites
Our area is also rich in archaeological sites. Primary among them is the 61.55-acre Crystal River Archaeological State Park. Occupation of the site took place over a period of at least 1,900 years. The Crystal River site contains burial mounds, temple or domiciliary platform mounds, a sand-shell ring, a raised platform, a plaza area, a garbage midden and four crudely carved stone monuments as well as interpretive displays in the adjacent buildings. Take a leisurely stroll through the park and explore all of the unique history.
